Greetings from St. David's Hospital in downtown Austin!

This is Alicia, Matt's sister, and though he's up and visiting he's not up to writing one of his eloquent posts quite yet. There have been so many people who have asked for an update we thought this is the best way to reach the most friends.

Stacey and Matt got to the hospital bright and really early at 5:30 this morning. He went back for surgery around 7:30 and was out after about an hour and half. His recovery room nurse was wonderful about providing frequent updates, but no one was allowed to go visit him there.

The reports were mostly to say his pain was mild and that he was sleeping. The only frustrating part of the day was that even after he was more alert, they didn't have a room available for him to be moved to.

After Dad and I got the kids off to school this morning, we headed down to keep Stacey company. No one is probably surprised to know Stacey had a full smorgasbord of delicious snacks to keep us occupied and well-fed all day!

Finally about 5:15 Stacey got the call that a room was available, and we've been up here with him since. He looks great. He's rated his pain level at just a 4, but keeping ahead of it has taken some more pain meds. I'll stay here with him tonight so Stacey can get back home to check on the kids and get them to school tomorrow.

The surgeon reported he didn't take out quite as much of the liver as he'd thought he might have to - great news for sure. Overall, the news is that he's on the path to recovery, and all is off to a good start. He's still expected to be here at least two nights, probably three.

From all the Thompson family, everyone is SO grateful for all your prayers, good wishes, offers to help with meals and kids, and just letting Matt know how much he is truly loved.
